2008 FOOTBALL SEASON TICKET
AND PRIORITY POINT SYSTEM INFORMATION
What are Priority Points?
Priority points provide a systematic method of calculating generosity and commitment in order to reward athletic donors and season ticket holders but also to provide an incentive for beginning, renewing, and increasing participation as an athletic donor and season ticket holder. The concept is employed at colleges and universities across the country. Developed by alumni volunteers, athletic department and Rutgers Foundation staff, the system was approved by the Board of Governors/Board of Trustees Athletic Subcommittee and is administered collaboratively by the staff of the Rutgers Ticket Office and Athletic Development/Scarlet R Club.
How are Priority Points Earned
Priority points are accumulated on an annual basis (July 1 – June 30) in the following manner:
- 5 points for every $25 given to an athletic fund or program between July 1 and June 30 of the current fiscal year cycle.
- 5 points for each consecutive year as a season ticket holder in the sport for which the season ticket is being purchased, in this case, football.
- 250 points for members of the university’s President’s Council – cumulative contributions to any university fund(s) or program(s) at or above $10,000 during the current fiscal year cycle (July 1 – April 30 for football – July 1 – June 30 for men’s basketball). A bonus is not awarded for pledges.
- 5 points each for being a current season ticket holder in men’s and/or women’s basketball.
- 5 points for being an active member of your Rutgers University alumni association.
What should I know about Priority Points if…
…I held football season tickets last season in a priority point section?

- Season ticket renewal forms for priority point seating will be mailed after you meet or exceed the minimum associated with your seats from last season.
- Requests for additional season tickets in/out of a priority point section will be filled based upon your priority point total and its relation to other point holders requesting new/additional season tickets. The top point holder will receive priority over all others and so on down the line. Gifts to any Rutgers athletic fund before April 30, 2008 will increase your point total.
- You will have the opportunity to request additional season tickets on your renewal form.
...I held football season tickets last season but not in a priority point section?
- You do not have to meet any point minimum in order to renew the seats you held last season. Your renewal form will be mailed to you on or about March 10, 2008.

How can I purchase additional season tickets?
Your season ticket renewal form will give you the opportunity to request additional seats and/or a new location as well as parking. If your priority point totals meet or exceed that which your 2007 seats required, your renewal form will be mailed on or about March 10, 2008.
Will requests for new season tickets be allotted any differently than requests for additional tickets by a preexisting season ticket holder?
All requests for “new” season tickets will be filled on a priority point basis whether you are requesting “new” seats in addition to your current allotment or requesting season tickets for the first time (Wait List customers). Requests to change your seating location will be handled in priority point order as well.
Will I receive the same seats that I had last season?
- Renewing season ticket holders who qualify to return to the priority point section seating they held during the 2007 season will receive seating in the same quantity and location.
- Renewing season ticket holders who held seats outside of a priority point section during the 2007 season and follow appropriate renewing guidelines will receive seating in the same quantity and location. (Rutgers University Athletics reserves the right to move seats slightly in order to eliminate unused single seats.)
- All requests for 2008 season tickets will be addressed in priority point order.
- Fulfillment of season ticket requests for all those residing on the waiting list will be filled in priority point order.
Are there other ways that I benefit from accumulating priority points?
Yes, priority point seating is used for men’s basketball and provides the basis for ticket purchase opportunities and seating selection at all away football games and post season competitions in which Rutgers participates or hosts, which includes but is not limited to football bowl games, Big East Championships, and the NCAA and NIT basketball tournaments.
How do I make a gift/pledge to receive priority points?
- Every charitable contribution you make to any Rutgers Athletic fund will earn you priority points.
- Typically, charitable contributions come in the form of cash (check, credit card, cash transfer, or an employer’s matching contribution) but appreciated stock and securities, and gifts of real estate can be utilized as well.
- All gifts made to any Rutgers Athletic fund(s) between July 1 and June 30 annually accrue priority points under your name.* *Please note there is an April 30 deadline to qualify for football point minimums which can be covered with a formal pledge commitment.
- Matching gifts from your employer, to a Rutgers Athletic fund(s), earn you points. Points for matching gifts are applied in the fiscal year in which they are received. Please check with your employer on the distribution dates for matching gifts. A matching gift due after April 30 but before June 30 can be used to qualify one for priority point season ticket renewal but the match is subject to the same fulfillment terms as a pledge.
- You may pledge to make a gift to Rutgers Athletics in order to accumulate priority points before the April 30 football point deadline.
- In order to earn the points associated with a pledge you must formalize the pledge in writing on or before April 30, 2008. You can obtain a pledge form by contacting a staff member in Athletic Development/Scarlet R Club.
- Pledges must be completed by June 30, 2008 – the end of the university’s fiscal year in order to receive the associated point benefits including access to seating and parking.
- An unfulfilled pledge may result in the loss of any and all season ticket holder privileges, and may result in the reassignment/loss of season tickets and parking. In such cases, the customer will be refunded the cost of the ticket and parking purchase.
- A member of the Athletic Development/Scarlet R Club staff will gladly assist you in completing a gift or entering into a formal pledge arrangement. We would also welcome the opportunity to meet with you in person to discuss your philanthropic goals, answer any questions you might have about how to make a gift, the benefits of membership in the Scarlet R Club, and/or the priority point system. Simply contact us at 732-932-7629 or by email at scarletr@winants.rutgers.edu.
What if I do not reach the point total necessary to renew the tickets I held last season?
- You will not receive a season ticket renewal form for seats in a priority point section unless you meet the proper point total. You may contact the ticket office prior to the April 30 point deadline to request a seat location change outside of a priority point section.
- If you do not intend to meet the minimum point total to renew the seats you held last season by making a gift or pledge, please contact a member of the ticket office immediately. You will still have the opportunity to purchase season tickets but your seat location will be subject to availability and will be filled in priority point order.
What if I want to make changes to my seating assignment?
- Please note your seat change request on your application. Please note that season tickets are currently sold out so fulfillment of seat changes will be greatly limited.
- If you would like to move out of a priority point location prior to renewal please contact a member of the ticket office staff to review your options.
Are season tickets and/or points transferable?
- Priority points are non-transferable except to a spouse/life partner. Season tickets are non-transferable except to an immediate family member. Should a transfer occur the new season ticket holder immediately assumes all responsibility for meeting all seating and parking priority point eligibility requirements and ticket holder guidelines.
Will I receive information on priority point seating and my point status for men’s basketball independently of that for football?
- If you currently hold season tickets in men’s basketball, information relative to priority point seating and individual point updates will be addressed separately from football.
- If you are interested in becoming a men’s basketball season ticket holder and wish to discuss seating options please contact a member of the athletic development/Scarlet R Club staff.
Who do I speak with if I have questions related to priority points?
- Any member of the Athletic Development/Scarlet R Club and Ticket Office staff will gladly assist you with any questions you might have related to accumulating priority points and/or the benefits of the priority point system.
